# Increasing API Limits

If you currently host high-volume drop sales, flash sales or anticipate significant increases in online transactions on your Shopify site, you may want to increase the API limits for your Shopify account. This helps mitigate timeouts when too many requests hit your shopify store endpoint and help prevent any delays and latency in that data reaching Forter's API to decision the transactions in real-time.

## [Standard API Rate Limits](https://docs.forter.com/extensions/increasing-api-limits#standard-api-rate-limits)  
As of June 2019, the General Shopify API rate limits are:

**Shopify** (standard)

| Bucket Size | 40 |
| --- | --- |
| Leak Rate | 2/second |

**Shopify Plus**  
| Bucket Size | 80 |
| --- | --- |
| Leak Rate | 4/second |

Please reach out to your Shopify account manager or Shopify help center directly to request an increase in these limits.

## [Merchants with large sales expected to exceed the rate of multiple orders per second](https://docs.forter.com/extensions/increasing-api-limits#merchants-with-large-sales-expected-to-exceed-the)  
For each order, Forter does several calls to the Shopify API, in order to fetch data and perform operations (optional) of capturing, canceling, restocking and voiding.  
This results in a total of between 4 and 8 requests to Shopify API per order (depending on the configuration chosen on Forter)

Please discuss with your project manager regarding the recommended API limit rate to prevent any issues.
In cases where the Shopify API limit rate is not enough for a certain sale, there may be a couple of hours delay in receiving Forter's decisions for some of these few orders.
